Chamonix and the Alps - Day 1
I flew to Geneva Friday evening to meet up with Deb for a weekend of riding, camping, and some much-needed girlfriend time. Deb had set up camp not too far from Geneva, since I got in a bit late, so we had a short drive and some proper Roquefort cheese, crackers, and a glass of wine before hitting the hay. Saturday morning we broke camp and headed up the lakeside to check out the town of Yvoire. This beautiful medieval village has intact remnants from 14th century fortifications. It is also, according to a tourism website, a member of the Association of the Most Beautiful Villages of France. No doubt.

Deb and I headed down to Chamonix to set up camp and enjoy rare, clear views of Mont Blanc and the Aguille de Midi. We did a short out and back ride from camp in the afternoon up the Col de Montets which comes close to the Swiss border. Our evening consisted of red wine, campside dinner, and snapping endless pictures of the changing light over the mountains as the sun set and the alpenglow kicked in.
